重庆大学经济与工商管理学院经济系历史悠久，始建于1937年，著名经济学家马寅初教授、陈豹隐教授曾在此任教。新中国成立之后，由于院系调整，经济学科被调整其他高校。1978年重庆大学恢复经济学专业教育，1989年恢复经济与工商管理学院建制，首任院长杨秀苔教授创办“技术经济及管理”国家重点学科，2006年设立重庆市首个经济学博士点，2013年设立“能源经济”国家级一流本科专业建设点。经济系秉承重庆大学“研究学术、造就人才、佑启乡邦、振导社会”的办学宗旨，以建设中国西部地区领先、世界一流的经济学科为愿景。一直以来，经济系在人才培养、科学研究、服务社会等方面不断努力，为重庆市培养输送了一大批优秀人才。

The Department of Economics at the School of Economics and Business Administration of Chongqing University has a long and storied history. It was founded in 1937, with renowned economists Professor Ma Yinchu and Professor Chen Baoyin among its early faculty members. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, due to institutional adjustments, the discipline of economics was transferred to other universities.In 1978, Chongqing University reinstated the education of the economics major, and in 1989, the School of Economics and Business Administration was reestablished. The first dean, Professor Yang Xiutai, initiated the establishment of the national key discipline "Technology Economics and Management." In 2006, the first Ph.D. program in economics in Chongqing was established, and in 2013, the national first-class undergraduate specialty construction point for "Energy Economics" was set up.The Department of Economics adheres to Chongqing University's mission of "academic research, talent cultivation, community support, and societal guidance." Its vision is to build a leading and world-class economics discipline in the western region of China. Over the years, the department has continuously strived for excellence in talent cultivation, scientific research, and community service, contributing significantly to the development of Chongqing by producing a large number of outstanding talents.
